Abbreviations shadow box panel
"Abbreviations" was held in May of 1998 at the ANCA Gallery in Canberra ACT Australia. This work explores not only the idea of virtual travel but the more subtle areas of our cultural heritage that are also in play when we use the World Wide Web. These are areas are associated with how we pattern our thought and classify the world around us.

For this series of works I chose to produce a series of textiles which where presented within shadow boxes.

This image was created by first taking making a card plate and taking a mono print using pigment. This same plate was used for three of the images of 'globes' that appeared in the shadow boxes. The background cotton fabric was then embroidered with hand dyed cotton thread using a sewing machine
