Crazy quilt 8 inch blocks

Stitches used and information about this Crazy quilt block.

As with most of the blocks in this crazy quilt this 8 inch block is worked on crazy patched foundation of synthetic and natural and recycled after 5 fabrics. There are many simple stitches used in this block. Mainly there is arrangements of straight stitches and detached chain.

In the floral motif on the right side of the block there is buttonhole wheels, french knots and detached chain stitches. The silk ribbon flowers are worked in Japanese ribbon stitch. Below this area is a seam covered with hand dyed lace the edge of which is covered with half buttonhole wheels. A bead is sewn to the middle of each of the wheels and the lace has also been beaded.

In the middle of the block is two rows of buttonhole worked back to back and interlaced. This seam looks complex but it is not as after lacing the buttonhole straight stitches were splayed out from the seam and seed beads were added. Diagonally across the block is a row of buttonhole stitch that has been threaded with a fine cord and topped with floral motifs made of cast on stitch. In the right hand bottom of the block above the hand dyed green lace is a row of detached chain and straight stitches which have been topped off with vintage sequins which are held on by a seed bead.
