Threaded arrowhead stitch creates an line which can take on a braid like appearance. Lines of this stitch can be used as a border pattern in needlework projects or built up to create an interesting textured filling.

It is a stitch which is worked in two journeys. Work arrow stitch close together placed on a horizontal row. A second thread is then threaded as illustrated. As you move from stitch to stitch take care that you do not pass the needle through the ground fabric.

Interesting effects can be achieved by using a contrasting thread or fine ribbon. Metallic and textured threads also look good. This can be further embellished with beads to add a bit of sparkle to your sewing.

Use a blunt ended tapestry needle for this part of the process to avoid splitting the foundation running stitches. It is one of those stitches that lends itself to interesting effects if you are adventurous with it.
