Split stitch Example

This is the larger image of the dragon in his lair is a section of a larger panel which was inspired by JR Tolkein's book "Lord of the Rings". In 'The Hobbit' Bilbo is approaching this dragon in his lair.

His spines are shells which I dyed. Some stumpwork techniques and raised embroidery have also been used as he was worked first as slip and is padded. To give you a sense of scale at he widest point the dragon is 8 inches or 20 cms wide. Many of the beads are seed beads.
