Stitches used in this block include detached chain which is used along the cream braid that runs diagonally across the crazy quilt block. In the top left hand corner I used feather stitch which was then whipped down the spine with a fine hand dyed cotton thread similar in weight to the range found 'Danish flower' thread. Detached chain was used along the spikes in the same thread that I used to whip the spine and a bead placed in the centre of each motif.
Below the lace is Up and Down buttonhole stitched in a hand dyed thread which is the same weight as DMC pearl 5, topped with seed beads. Below is a line threaded arrow stitch which is woven with knitting ribbon. The spray of flowers is worked in silk ribbon and the leaves are worked using fly stitch stacked closely together and worked in one strand of metallic blending thread and one strand of over dyed DMC cotton. The flower centers are french knots worked with the same thread combination. The small pink flowers are french knots are worked in hand dyed silk. Cretan stitch was worked in an open manner and woven with a fine metallic cord. Chain stitch was used on the curved design and a row of beads stitched along the center.
Lace in the bottom right hand corner is edged with buttonhole worked in hand dyed silk and linear elements in the lace were picked out and emphasized with metallic thread worked in stem stitch. Beads were added in the center of each motif.
The bottom right corner is a row of herringbone topped with bullion knots used to create a row of small bullion rose buds. These were worked in silk with fly stitch at the base of each bud. Some cheap nylon lace was edged with buttonhole half wheels, interspersed with beads in the shape of a flower. The other edge of the lace was worked with straight stitches topped with french knots.
Apart from the nylon fan shaped lace the rest of the lace on the block is vintage. The foundation fabrics are a mix of contemporary home furnishing fabrics and after 5 dress fabrics. Most are synthetic apart from the blue piece in the middle which is silk. In the button cluster most of the buttons are vintage with the exception of the two buttons that have a metal edge.
