This block has a crazy patchwork foundation of both natural and synthetic after 5 fabrics. With the exception of the blue and pink fabric in the bottom right hand corner the fabrics and the hand dyed lace that is in the top right hand corner and the ruffled ribbon in the bottom left corner came from swaps with other quilters who also do crazy quilting.
In the top left hand corner is a row of fans which were made by weaving a hand dyed crochet cotton over an arrangement of 7 straight stitches. At the base is bead sewn in the centre of a quarter of a buttonhole wheel. Next to this is a row of herringbone withchevron stitch worked over the top in DMC pearl thread. A bead and 3 detached chain stitches finish the row. The butterfly is worked in two strands of DMC floss and shaded using long and short stitch. Below that is herringbone that has been used as a foundation for detached buttonhole.
In the bottom right corner is a row of zig zag chain. Couching holds down a textured thread received in a swap. The pink buttons are plastic but old and these too arrived in swap. The leaf shapes below are woven on a foundation of double herringbone pulling the thread tight to pull in each end and keeping it loose in the middle to fill out the shape.
A spray of beads and french knots are spread over a ruffled ribbon in the bottom left corner. Above this is a row of feather stitch worked in a silk thread and a bead is sewn between each spike to a little zest to the area.
