I started by fusing the shapes of musician, the jesters hat and the mask on to the block. I then added the music. It is the first few bars of Louis Armstrong’s What a Wonderful World.
I discovered that the Magnolia is the state flower so that area was added using Silk ribbon embroidery and this led to the Wisteria. In fact they grew quite a bit. Both the mask and the jesters hat were beaded.
Stitches used in this block on the seams are two rows of Herringbone, Oyster stitch worked in a row, and buttonhole . On the music and the edge of the fabric shapes I used couching . The Wisteria is done in French knots using silk ribbon and the leaves are detached chain and stems are worked using a whipped running stitch.
