The
exhibition 'Samplers and Sampling' was an exploration into the nature
of the connection between 'sampling' in digital media and textile samplers.
Samplers and digital technology both manipulate information in a manner
that questions the value and priority of the 'original'. These works
also explored the seduction of stitchery itself. The desire to touch
a textile and the need to connect with the work in a physical sense
is a metaphor for the internet's promise (not always realised) of community.
This exhibition was held in the Canberra School of Art gallery as part
of the Post-Graduate Program which I completed in March 1997. |
